Atrocity of the week - Melanie fired from Sprout

I wrote the following letter to Sprout in response to their firing of the hostess of the Good Night Show based on some funny skits she did 7 years ago that appeared on the net recently. If you feel so inclined, please drop them a line as well. My kid will thank you for it.

I am writing to you in regard to the recent dismissal of Melanie Martinez. I read your statement on your web site, and subsequently viewed the videos that Melanie made on the Internet. I am saddened by the state of the world today that would allow such innocuous and completely unrelated content to deprive my child of seeing his favorite TV host every night.

I know "innocuous" is only my opinion - however I believe that every opinion counts. If one person came along and said the videos were immoral and unfitting of a person in her position, BOY would you listen! However I believe my opinion will be tossed aside, in fear of the vocal minority. This happens all the time in our society and it is a shame. People have the right to turn off their TV or change the channel, but instead they complain and force everyone to their opinion. And somehow, a small number of actual complaints results in huge programming decisions.

I say unrelated because of the fact that my child will never know about these videos. He is 4 years old and is asking me "Where's Melanie?" every day since she has been removed. I had to tell him she was on vacation because I wasn't sure what happened. A few days later he told me, he doesn't like when Melanie is on vacation. He looked forward to seeing her show every night. I had no idea he was so attached to her specifically, until recently. Although I can see why. She is a perfect match for the show she is doing, she is like a preschool teacher.

I hope you will consider bringing her back on the air. And I hope you receive lots of letters like this one. Maybe a vocal majority will sway your decision.

Random photos

I posted some new family photos up on Google. I switched to Google's new service Picasa Web Albums because, while the other photo service made cool layouts and transitions, some one viewing the photos could not save or print them (or do whatever with them). Google is more traditional that way. And it integrates with Picasa as well as the other one did.
By the way, if you haven't tried Picasa to organize your photos, you are missing out.

By the way - not as exciting - but I have a MySpace page now. Just trying to figure out what the kids are doing these days. To tell the truth I find MySpace to be clunky and hard to navigate. Somehow though, every kid in the world is on there. Go figure.
